Don’t you want a balloon? You may very well be familar with Pennywise and Stephen King’s epic novel about a child killing enitity that haunts the sewers of a small New England town, but you may not be aware of the behind the scenes shenanigans that took place on the moist loved TV adaption. The 1990 It miniseries condensed King’s sprawling novel into two nights of television, stripping much of the cosmic mythology to fit ABC’s standards and budget. Production was chaotic, directors came and went, effects were cobbled together, and the network forced toning down and an altered ending, yet that rawness created an uneasy, memorable atmosphere.
