It’s Horror… but not as you know It! (Photoshop Neural Filters)

by | Nov 6, 2020

Photoshop 2021 launched recently, and with it came a whole host of new filters and features. We wondered just how powerful they were and thought it would be fun to use the Neural Filters and Background replacements to change moments from some of our favorite horrors. So here we go, just for fun… It’s Horror… but not as you know It! (Photoshop neural filters)

Beetlejuice (1988)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Beetlejuice

“Say whatttt!”

Beetlejuice has many emotive moments throughout his namesake film, but his is never surprised. So, here we changed his expression to one of pure surprise.

Carrie (1976)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Carrie

“Probably shouldn’t have done that!”

We found that whenever you try to change the gaze of the eyes, they took on a comic, unnatural look, so we just went with that here.

Dracula (1931)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Dracula

“The filters of the night… what great colours they make!”

Using Photoshops Colourize Neural Filter, we instantly coloured Bela Lugosi in his turn as Dracula in 1931.

American Psycho (2000)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - American Psycho

“I’m into, uh, well, murders and executions and Chubby Checker albums.”

With a simple flip of a switch, we have aged Patrick Bateman around 30/40 years. He maybe old, but he’s still killing it!

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Silence of the Lambs

“I do wish we could chat longer… honestly!”

Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s persona is one of stoic un-interest, so we thought we would give him a little personality, by making him as pleasant looking as possible.

Orphan (2009)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Orphan

“I have a special surprise for you!”

Orphans Esther is actually a 33-year-old woman, so we tried to age her appropriately. It’s subtle and knda works.

Psycho (1960)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Psycho

“I’m having a shower… I’M HAVING A SHOWER!”

Marion Crane never really got to enjoy her shower in the first act of Psycho, so we changed that with a little smile. We also colourized the heck out of her!

The Shining (1980)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - The Shining

“Sorry about the door!”

We tried to turn crazy Jack Torrance into someone who’s a little sorry for his actions.

The Evil Dead (1981)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Evil Dead
“Colour her if you can, loverboy!”

Not a scene from the film, but the promotional stills shot for the film. We used the Sky Replacement quick button to swap out the gloomy horizon to something more happy!

Let the Right One In (2008)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Let the Right One In

“I’m twelve. But I’ve been twelve for a long time.”

Vampire Eli may look like a little girl, but she/he is actually hundreds of years old. Using the aging function, we put a few years on the blood sucking “child”!

An American Werewolf in London (1981)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - American Werewolf in London

“Excuse me, but what’s that thing on your face for?”

Sometimes, Photoshop has a few issues finding features on faces. It does it’s best, but as you can see from this hilarious still, it’s not always accurate. It gave us a good laugh though!

Demons (1985)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Demons

“Ow, shit, I scratched myself!”

Rosemarie has a nasty time in the Metropol cinema bathrooms. We tried to turn a “Demon infection” into something a little lighter, like a zit or facial boil. Now she looks like she enjoyed her face exploding!

Salem’s Lot (1979)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Salem's Lot

“You’ll enjoy Mr Barlow…”

Mr Barlow only makes a few appearances in the 1979 mini-series, and we never really get a good feel of his personality. SO, we fixed that with a great big grin! Now he looks like he’s posing for a photo. Say Cheese!

Underwater (2020)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Underwater

“Sometimes you have to START feeling!”

O.K., no one was going to make Kristen Stewart smile…so we did!

Dracula (1958)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Dracula - Christopher Lee

“If you look over there you can see the sun coming up.”

Christopher Lee’s Dracula did many things throughout the Hammer film series, but he never smiled. So we TRIED very hard to turn a frown upside down… In the end, we just aged him 40 odd years to see what a greying Count would look like!

Hellraiser (1987)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Hellraiser

“Pain has a face…”

We tried to put a grin on Pinheads pointy head, but it ended up looking a little weird…and painful!

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Night of the Living Dead
“You can colour down there, but I’m colouring up here!”

We used the colourize to bring George A. Romero’s film to life in a brand new way! Due to the way Photoshop colours the sky and ground, it’s left the ghouls with washout grey faces, which is actually perfect considering!

Tremors (1990)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Tremors

“Hey – check this out! I found the ass end!”

We tried to make Earl and Valentine look a little surprised…but what we got was confused!

Phantasm (1979)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - Phantasm

“Have you seen my silver balls?”

There are no words to describe what is going on here. All I can say is this made us piss ourselves laughing.

The Mist (2007)

It’s Horror… But not as you know It! – Horror Land - The Mist

“There’s nothing out there!”

We wanted to turn the gloomy Mist poster into something bright and cheery. The SKy Replacement did an awesome job, but it did need touching up a little to bring the windows out.
