Midsommar is Ari Aster’s modern take on The Wicker Man, where an isolated cult forces its chilling rituals on an unwitting group of tourists. but whilst the films main plot has many simailrties to the 1973 chilling cult horror, Aster’s film plunges much deeper into myth, history and philosophy, allwrapped in uncomfortable shell of hidden menaings and the human jouney through grief. This is much more than a just a horror about a group of crazed Athenian styled worshippers, and no one knows that better than Thomas Thorogood, whose video dives deep into the hidden meanings and creepy sub-text of the film.
