The ‘Burbs TV Series Heads Back to Suburbia

Peacock is heading back to suburbia and the neighbours are still very, very strange.
The streamer has given a straight-to-series order to The ‘Burbs (2026), a contemporary television reworking of Joe Dante’s cult horror‑comedy The ‘Burbs (1989). Keke Palmer is set to lead the series and will also serve as an executive producer.
Originally released in 1989, The ‘Burbs starred Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher as a suburban couple whose quiet street hides something deeply unsettling. Despite a modest box office performance at the time, the film has since grown into a fan‑favourite, blending paranoia, dark comedy, and suburban dread. It remains a staple of late‑night horror comedy viewing and currently streams on Peacock.
The new series is being written and executive produced by Celeste Hughey (Palm Royale, Dead to Me (2019–2023)), with Palmer playing the wife in a young couple who return to the husband’s childhood home. Their attempt at a peaceful reset quickly unravels when new neighbours move in next door, exposing long‑buried secrets and introducing fresh, lethal threats lurking behind white picket fences.
Yes, it looks like the cul‑de‑sac is in for a whole heap of trouble.
This project marks another collaboration between MacFarlane and Peacock following the success of Ted (2024– ), which has already secured a second season.
In a nice touch for long‑time fans, the series will film in Los Angeles on the same Universal Studios Hollywood backlot used for the original movie. That familiar suburban street, the one that never quite felt safe, is about to welcome new residents.
For fans of the original film, the question isn’t whether something awful is happening next door, it’s how long before everyone else notices.
First episode launches on peacock on February 8th 2026.
