Sam Raimi Personally Hosed His Stars With “Vomit” and “Blood” on Send Help (2026)

If there’s one constant across Sam Raimi’s career, it’s his love of practical splatter. From The Evil Dead (1981) to Drag Me to Hell (2009) and even the PG‑13 chaos of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), Raimi has always found a way to get something wet, sticky, or both. With Send Help (2026), he’s fully back in his comfort zone, and this time, nobody else was allowed to throw the mess.
Speaking to Empire, Raimi admitted he took direct control of the on‑set abuse:
“Throwing vomit in Dylan O’Brien’s face. Throwing blood in Rachel McAdams’ face, throwing water in her face, poking her with sticks.”
(He later added, “Okay, yeah, I might have poked her with a stick once.”)
The new film sees Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams) stranded on a deserted island with her nightmare boss Bradley Preston (Dylan O’Brien) after they’re the only survivors of a plane crash.
The film has just recnetly been awared MPA R/15 rating for “strong/bloody violence and language.”, whihc is a first for Raimi in quite a few years. His last R rated film was The Gift (2000). So it’s great to see him abck on that (gore) horse.
For McAdams and O’Brien, being drenched by Raimi himself became a strange badge of honour. McAdams explained…
“He will not allow anyone else to be the gunk‑thrower“I thought he was kidding the first time, when he threw a bucket of water in my face during the plane crash scene. Nope. He takes his job very seriously. He practises”
Sam Raimis full blooded horror will hit screens in the US 30th January and in the UK 6th February.
