Great news and a twist for horror fans! It’s confirmed that Cillian Murphy won’t make an appearance in 28 Years Later, but there’s a possibility we’ll see him in future sequels.

Previously, it was speculated that Murphy would reprise his role as Jim. However, producer Andrew Macdonald recently told Empire that though they wanted him involved, he’s not set to appear just yet.

“We wanted him to be involved and he wanted to be involved. He is not in the first film, but I’m hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line… He’s involved at the moment as an executive producer, and I would hope we can work with him in some way in the future in the trilogy.“

When the first teaser for 28 Days Later dropped, eagle-eyed fans thought they spotted Murphy as one of the infected. It turns out it was an extra named  Angus Neill who took on that chilling role. Even director Danny Boyle had a chuckle over this when his partner predicted the mix-up. he said

“I showed my girlfriend the trailer and she said, ‘People will think that’s Cillian,’.. I said, ‘Don’t be silly.’ I ignored her. So I’ve eaten a bit of humble pie since.“

The cast lineup is nothing short of brilliant with Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Erin Kellyman bringing this harrowing world to life.

And speaking about sequels—a hallmark for horror success (look at Halloween or Scream)—28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has wrapped filming already! The second part of the “28 Years” trilogy has allready been shot alongside the mian film, with potential whispers about Danny Boyle stepping up to direct part three, there’s much excitement buzzing around what horrors lie ahead. So, it’s possible that Murphy  may well pop up in The Bone Temple?

The synopsis reveals it’s been nearly three decades since the rage virus outbreak began; survivors have found somewhat comfortable niches amidst chaos and infection. One group takes refuge on an isolated island, daring those spine-chilling ventures into mainland Britain where surprises of both terror and awe await.

Mark your horror calendars! The film releases on June 20th while its sequel lurks right around the corner for a January 16, 2026 unveiling. Let’s grab our popcorn (and perhaps some zombe smashing weapons?) as we prepare to witness another chapter unfold in this gripping saga!
