Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Sets October Premiere on Prime Video

The halls of high school are getting another supernatural nightmare.

Prime Video has released the first teaser for Carrie, an eight-episode limited series based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel. Created by Mike Flanagan, the new take on King’s tragic telekinetic teenager will bloodily aarive on 7th October.

For fan of King's very first Novel, this marks the FIFTH adaption (yes FIFTH) as it turns out that King's first is also his most adapted. Carrie floated her first film in 1976, with a sequal called  Rage: Carrie 2 in 1999. A made-for-television movie adaptation starring Angela Bettis in the title role appeared in 2002 and A theatrical remake directed by Kimberly Peirce and starring Chloë Grace Moretz in 2013. WHilst the story might eb stale, a TV series may just add extra deptha dn time to breath, allowing for further character development.

In this new adaption Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, a withdrawn young woman whose isolated upbringing has left her painfully unprepared for life beyond home. Her mother, Margaret White, played by Samantha Sloyan, has kept Carrie under close control for years. When Carrie’s father dies unexpectedly, that fragile and oppressive routine comes to an end.

Thrown into public high school, Carrie finds herself trapped in a very different sort of hostile environment. The series places King’s story in the age of social media, where bullying can spread well beyond the classroom and a humiliating incident can turn into a community-wide spectacle. At the same time, Carrie begins to discover powers she cannot explain — or fully contain.

Flanagan is writing, executive producing and directing four episodes. The filmmaker is no stranger to King’s work, having previously adapted Gerald’s Game (2017) and Doctor Sleep (2019), as well as creating series including The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. King is also attached as an executive producer. Lets also not forget his MIdnight Mass, which  for all intents and purpose is a loose adaption of Salem's lot.

Flanagan is also tagged to hit up another King adaption for his next project, where he delves into a new take on The Mist

Keep an eye out on PRIME in October and chekc out the teaser below.
