Matthew Lillard Confirms Epic Skeet Ulrich FNAF Return

Ghostfaces Reunite as Five Nights at Freddy’s Eyes a Profitable Future
Original Scream stars Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich look set for a long-awaited horror reunion, this time under the flickering lights of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
The pair famously starred together in Wes Craven’s Scream (1996), becoming horror icons in the process. Nearly three decades later, both actors remain firmly rooted in the genre. Most recently, they appeared in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (2025), although fans were left disappointed when the two never actually shared a scene. That may soon change.
Speaking at a recent fan convention, Lillard was asked whether a future Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 would finally bring him and Ulrich together on screen. His answer was brief and confident: “Yes, next question. Yes, 100%.”

Lillard plays William Afton, the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment and the main antagonist of the franchise. Ulrich joined the series in the second film as Henry Emily, the other co-founder and the father of Charlotte, one of Afton’s victims. Their shared history is central to the Five Nights at Freddy’s lore, making their long-awaited confrontation a major draw for fans.
Director Emma Tammi, who helmed both films, has also hinted at the possibility. In an interview last December, she explained that although a third film has not yet been officially approved, bringing Lillard and Ulrich together is something she is keen to explore. Whether that means direct interaction or parallel storylines remains undecided, but the intention to build on their dynamic is clear.
Behind the scenes, the franchise’s financial success makes a third instalment hard to ignore. The original Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023) grossed $291 million worldwide on a reported $20 million budget. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 followed with $238–240 million globally, passing the $200 million mark in late December 2025. Internationally, the sequel alone has taken nearly $93 million.
While critics have been harsh on both films, audiences continue to show up in large numbers. Blumhouse and Universal have found a reliable hit, particularly among younger horror fans drawn to the PG-13 rating and the game’s built-in fanbase.
Adding to the momentum is the broader nostalgia factor. With Scream 7 recently proving that legacy horror franchises can still perform strongly at the box office, a proper Lillard–Ulrich reunion in Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 could serve as a powerful marketing hook.
No official announcement has been made yet, but given the box office numbers and the clear interest from cast and crew, the odds of returning to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza look increasingly strong.

Hilly Horror
Hilly love of horror knows no bounds. As a massive fan of slasher and ghost films, she has watched all of the Wrong Turn and Paranormal Activity films. Now that’s bravery at a scale we can’t beat.
