Cinema is place where creativity knows no bounds, where even the end credits can take on a life of their own. While often overlooked, these snippets of recognition for the hardworking individuals behind the scenes can sometimes hold unexpected surprises that leave audiences chuckling or scratching their heads. From bizarre job titles to hilarious nods, let’s look at some of the most interesting and noteworthy film credits that have graced the silver screen.

 

 

 

1 – Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

 

 

Renowned for its absurd humor, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” doesn’t disappoint in the credits department either. The film’s end credits feature an intentionally long-winded joke that starts with faux Swedish subtitles which then quickly descends into one big joke where about Mooses, highlighting the film’s penchant for nonsensical humor.

 

 

2- Airplane! (1980) – Random People

As you would expect from a movie from David and Jerry Zucker, Airplane! Continues the laughs straight into the credits, with credits to Charles Dickens and a chap who is “ Generally in charge of a lot of things”. There’s even a little sting at the end of the anti-piracy warning. So there.

 

 

3 – Airplane II: The Sequel (1982) – More Random People

As the sequel doubled down in gaffs, so did the end credits double down in silliness. You’ll have to keep you eyes peeled as Airplane II: The Sequel but nestled after the gaffer (whats a gaffer) and best boy is the “worst boy”, which the film declares to be Adolf Hitler. Yes.. I think they are right!

 

 

4 – Deadpool (2016)

Deadpool is a comical action superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds. The film is filled to the brim with gags and laughs, and it even manages to squeeze one last laugh into an otherwise oridinary credit scroll. In the thanks, two people are highlighted above all others, with a special thanks (with tongue”.

 

 

5- Scream (1996) – No Thanks Whatsoever

It’s fair to say that no one expected a crazy credit at the end of Wes Craven’s game changing slasher Scream. But this stab at the Santa Rosa City School District Governing Board actually comes with a back story. Apparently, Craven was due to shoot at the Santa Rosa City School, but the governing board pulled out at the last minute, leaving the production with no where to shoot. Whilst the film went ahead, Craven made sure his feelings towards the situation were clear when he dropped this hilarious credit at the end of the film. Ouch!

 

 

 

6 Blood & Donuts (1995)

Blood and Donuts is a 1995 supernatural comedy horror film directed by Holly Dale. This This Canadian vampire film has the right amount of comedy, blood and (of course) donuts. The film also twists our view on what counts as an animal wrangler, as the film credits one such persona s wrangling a Dead Bird. Whilst animal wrangler’s are very common in films, I doubt a dead bird really needed that much wrangling. Hmmm.

 

 

 

7 – Pulp Fiction – Coffee Shop

Quentin Tarantino’s epic Pulp Fiction is a super sharp crime drama that also brings it’s sassy humour into its credits too. There a few odd credits, including someone credited as “Hold Your Hands You Love Birds” , another as “Long Hair Yuppy Scum” and one who played “Dead Floyd Wilson”, but our favourite is a play on words. In one scene, the manager of a coffee shop is accosted by gun toting Tim Roth who accuses him of being a hero. He replies “I’m not a hero, I’m a coffee shop…” before being cut off by a screaming Roth. As a nod to this line, the actor is credited as Coffee Shop.

 

 

 

8 – RoboCop (1987) – A Stern Warning

Robocop is Paul Verhoeven’s offbeat and biting satire on commercialism, with a twist of dark humour and ton of gore. Whilst the films humour was always firmly planted in it’s own mouth, the end credits did manger to lighten the mood for any patrons that sat through the entire credit scroll. “This motion picture is protected under the laws of the United States and other countries and its unauthorized duplication, distribution or exhibition may result in civil liability and criminal prosecution by enforcement droids.”. In the words of Robocop himself, Your move, creep.

 

 

9 – The Naked Gun! From The Files of Police Squad (1988) – What’s my line?

Another Zucker production here with Naked Gun, and yet again the comedy spills over into the films credits. Some highlights are “Man and Woman Deleted from Firework Scene” Mr. Weiss’ Divorce Attorney” and instructions of what to do in case of a tornado (Southwest corner of basement). However, our favourite is just a long list of people credited by the single line they said. which I guess is easier than creating character names for them.

 

 

 

10 – An American Werewolf in London (1981) – Undead

John Landis’s epic werewolf feature is well know for it’s dark humour and graphic gore. But beyond the films amazing special effects, witty script and spot on cinematography, there’s a couple of funny moments in the credits too. The film congratulates Princes Charles and Princess Diana on their wedding, which took place in the same year of release, and then drops alternate Disclaimer, which adds “undead” to the list.

11 – Zombeavers – Purple Nurple

We could probably fill an entire two articles with a lists of films that twist the “No animals were harmed in the making of this film” message, for comedic effect of course. But we’ve whittled it down to just one.  Zombeavers is a tongue in cheek horror comedy that follows a group of teens menaced by a bunch of zombie beavers. As the credits roll, we are assured “No animals were harmed in the making of this film, although the bear did receive a purple nurple (not our fault, he started it)”.

 

 

 

12 – The Blues Brothers (1980) – Cutting Room Floor

John Landis The Blues Brothers is funny and offbeat a musical comedy that hits all the right notes. The film also gets a few laughs in the credits to, with some funny nicknames and misspelling of the main cast. However, a rather ingenuous credit pops up quite early and hints at possible issues during post “Woman on cutting room floor”.

 

 

 

13 – Wrongfully Accused – A Full Menu

Spoofs were all the rage during the late 90’s and the 1998 comedy satire Wrongfully Accused decide to take on The Fugitive. Starring Leslie Nielsen, the film’s credits were just a hilarious as the film. Alongside stunt men “Just hanging on to life” there is also the directors favourite lunch (on a cold rainy day) and “interns we allegedly all had sex with”. We also have oto point out that just under “grips”, is a credit for “grouped”. On top of this, the film also included Lottery numbers and a full menu. Hilarious stuff.

 

 

 

14 – Hot Shots – Things To Do

Hot Shots was an hysterical spoof on Top Gun that brought Charlie Sheen into the lime light as a comedy genius. Filled to the brim with gags, the credits were also not safe from the silliness. Hot Shot’s credits include a recipe for “Nobby Buns” and a list of things to do after the film. Lets never forget that Hot Shots! Part Deux’s credit spoiled the big twist from the The Crying Game.

 

 

 

15 – Fear Street Part 1: 1994 (2021) – CGI Flies

Based on R. L. Stine’s book series of the same Fear Street Street Part 1 is the first of a trilogy of young adult horror films. The films credits had a funny little moment where three CGI flies are credited. Very odd.

 

 

 

16 – Miracle Mile (1988) – Doctor Biobrain

The apocalyptic thriller drama Miracle Mile is massively underrated film that follows a random young man whom picks up a random pay phone call from a frantic soldier who warns of a nuclear attack that will hit L.A. within the hour. This dark and tragic film has an odd credit that dedicates the film to Doctor Biobrain. According to director Steve De Jarnatt, this was the name of his cat at the time of filming.

 

 

 

17 – Mallrats (1995) – Everyone

It seems that writer and director Kevin Smith had so many people to thank, at the end of his hit comedy Mallrats, that he just crams it all in at the end. In the tightly spaced text, he thanks everyone from God to his parents “or having sex all those years ago”. Well, that’s nice.

 

 

 

18 – The Marsupials: The Howling III (1987) – Eggs Benedict

 Whilst the quality of the Howling films dropped dramatically after the original, you can’t deny The Howling III director, Philippe Mora, for his attempt at pushing one of his favorite restaurant and his best meal from said restaurant, Eggs Benedict. This is certainly one tasty crazy credit.

 

 

 

19 – Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead (1994) – Wrath of the Tall Man

Phantasm director Don Coscarelli is not shy of a crazy credit. Whilst it’s pretty much business as usual for his epic horror films credits for his third Phantasm film, as they come to end, the copyright warning boast an addition any horror fans would pay attention to.
“Unauthorized duplication, distribution, or exhibition may result in civil liability, criminal prosecutions, and THE WRATH OF THE TALL MAN.”
Years later,  Coscarelli would do the same gag for another of his epic horrors. At the end of Bubba Ho Tep, the credits warned of the wrath of “Bubba Ho Tep”.

 

 

 

20 – In the Mouth of Madness – The Casualties are Heavy

In the Mouth of Madness is a 1994 American supernatural horror film directed and scored by John Carpenter. This graphic horror film sure did have it’s shocks, and Carpenter carried this over into the credist, as the final things you’ll read is this.

“Animal interaction was monitored by the American Humane Association with on set supervision by the Toronto Humane Society. No animal was harmed in the making of this film. Human interaction was monitored by the Inter Planetary Psychiatric Association. The body count was high, the casualties are heavy.”
