Could Beetlejuice 3 Ever Actually Happen?

Back in 2024, Tim Burton delivered a rare treat. By daring to say a certain phantom's name three times, he successfully brought back the dark humor, undead charm, and signature chaos of the 1980s.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) was the sequel we'd been waiting 30 years for, and the return of Burton to the director's chair made the whole experience worth the wait. Whilst it lacked the originality of the first, it was a great return for many characters we'd been DYING to see back on the silver screen.

Chatting with Vanity Fair this week, Burton explained that returning to the characters after 35 years felt right.

"It was like, nobody's getting any younger and blah, blah, blah... I really did that movie not to make a sequel, but it was something that I enjoyed, and we tried to do it in the style of the first movie, shot it quickly, did live effects. So it was an experience that meant a lot to me. And I think for me, it's always important to make something that I really, really feel."

With Burton reflecting on his Beetlejuice sequel, many fans are now asking... wahts next?

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice writers Al Gough and Miles Millar were asked just this question, when Screenrant caught up with them at the Smallville's 25th anniversary.

ScreenRant: Seeing you guys work together with Tim Burton, it's a crossover I never saw happening, but I'm glad it happened. Not only have you been involved with Wednesday these last few years, but you also decided to take on this other iconic franchise with Beetlejuice, and we have a lot of people at ScreenRant who loved Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. Are there any chances for a third one?

Al Gough: You never say never, but that's really up to Tim. And I think with Catherine's passing, it's certainly harder. Yeah.

Miles Millar: No, that's the answer. It's just [harder.]

So, what’s the final verdict? The writers are pretty skeptical about dusting off their typewriters for round three, especially since Tim Burton would have to give it his official seal of spooky approval. Plus, as Gough pointed out, making a third film without the legendary Catherine O'Hara feels like a tough ghost to bust.

So, will we ever get Beetlejuice 3? Right now, it seems highly unlikely. But hey, we said the exact same thing about Beetlejuice 2.... and look how that turned out!
