Nightmare On Elm Street Rumours Hint at Lee Cronin

Put on yout tin foil hats for some COMPLETELY unverified news on a New Nightmare on Elm Street project. It's super hard to keep track on whats reall and whats not real at the moment thanks to so much satuatiion from fake AI stuff doing the rounds. However this lates update does come from usually reliable sources and also some real news that is verified.

So firstly, lets clear up a huge bit of news that has been completely blown out of proportion. Paramount did not buy out the entire A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise as has been highly sung about from various news outlets, but instead closed a deal in July 2026 for the U.S. rights to adapt Wes Craven's original 1984 screenplay.That's right US rights, they can make a film but can not ship it internationally. Thoise international rights still sit with  Warner Bros. / New Line Cinema, which has led to a complicated division of the property. It's also worth noting that it's the ORIGINAL screenplay, the one sold to Newline, that has been sold by Wes Craven's family, a farely different script to the film we saw on screen.

Paramount has created a new genre label called Paramount Primal, to host the new NIghtmare on Elmstreet film.  J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules will be heading up  the new label and Craven’s widow Iya Labunka said this:

“We look forward to bringing the world of Wes Craven’s ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ to a new and completely engaged generation of fans. We know that Wes would have been thrilled to see how horror is taking its long overdue place in the cultural canon. We can’t wait for all of us to sit together in a dark theater — around the campfire of today — as the next chapter of the ‘Nightmare’ story unfolds.”

So the latest nuggest is actauly being stirred up from Dread Central, which is usually a good source of ACTAUL news, but have decided to jump on the band wagon and put thier ear to ground and listeing  for vibration through the floor. Thier latest stab in the dark is that there is now  ahuge race on between Warner Bros. & Paramount to push out a new NIghtmare film (which is very plausible), and Warner is looking at Lee Conin to come on board as director. Again.. take this as a pinch of salt, but here's the direct qoute.

“Sources with knowledge of the matter think Paramount figured that by the time their movie got underway, the WarnerMount deal would have closed and Warners would be compelled to release the Paramount version overseas. But Warners’ Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy didn’t care for that plan. Now they’re looking to make their own movie, which they can only distribute overseas, and are in talks with Lee Cronin to produce, write, and direct.”

Now I'm a huge A Nightmare on Elm Street fan, but I hate the fact that the sale of the orginal script feels a little icky, especially becuase it's a US only deal. Wes Craven's work belongs to the world, and to isolate that for a few quick bucks makes the whole sitaution feel damn right dirty. I especially don't think any studio should be rushing to push out another quick reboot like the 2010 disaster.

Anyhow, what we know is that there are now TWO studios that own the rights to A Nightmare on Elm street, and very possible, two studios willing to put out two very differnet films under the same name. This is NOT the first time this has happened, Never Say Never Again was a non canon James Bond film that was bascially a remake of Thunderball with Sean Connery swapping guns for Roger Moore and came out the same year as Octopussy (1983).

Has either stuido made any offical announments.. no. SO what we have is a bunch of rumours and little else. I no doubt know that we will see a new NIghtmare on Elmstreet film hitting our screens in the next few years. But for now, cool your heels, and wait for varifed news before drilling this bit of news into your temporal lobe.
