Big Trouble In Little China Sequel
Last year, Dwayne Johnson dropped a huge bomb that he was re-making the epic adventure film, Big Trouble In Little China. Fan’s of the John Carpenter classic were not happy, and it seems that Johnson and producer producer Hiram Garcia (president of Johnson’s Seven Bucks company) were listening. It seems the plan has now changed and the film will be a sequel to the original. After all, Kurt Russell is pretty much the one and only Jack Burton.
Collider chatted with Garcia about the project and he had this to say.
“There’s a lot of things going on with [Big Trouble in Little China]. We are in the process of developing that, and let me tell you, the idea is not to actually remake Big Trouble in Little China. You can’t remake a classic like that, so what we’re planning to do is we’re going to continue the story. We’re going to continue the universe of Big Trouble in Little China. Everything that happened in the original exists and is standalone and I think there’s only one person that could ever play Jack Burton, so Dwayne would never try and play that character. So we are just having a lot of fun. We’re actually in a really great space with the story that we’ve cracked. But yeah, no remake. It is a continuation, and we are deep into development on that as well, and I think you’ll start hearing some things about that probably soon.”
This is a really great move, as I don’t think any one wants Johnson stepping into Kurt Russell’s well worn shoes. Big Trouble In Little China is such a huge film, it would have been awful to see a modern day attempt murder such a great story.
If Johnson’s going to star, it may be a fair way off before the star will be available for Big Trouble 2, due to his commitments on all sorts of films including,a Fast & Furious spin-off and the Jumanji sequel. Busy time for Hollywood’s best paid star.
