‘Children of the Corn’ Reboot Finally Releasing This Year?
If awards for under the radar film projects existed, than hands down, production company ANVL Entertainment would be up for a nomination, as their little know Children of the Corn project awakens from a two year slumber. Yep, it looks like this new adaption is just about ready to burst from the corn.. and I can’t wait for this one!
Filmed in Australia back in 2020, the latest adaption will be the 12th actually film in the Children of the Corn franchise, all based on a short story by Stephen King, originally published in 1978 as part of the Night Shift short story collection. The story follows a couple who discover a small Nebraska town called Gatlin, where the kids have slaughtered all the adults in order to please an ancient deity that lives in the surrounding fields of corn. This new adaption is the third version of King’s original story.
The original 1984 film adaption failed to recapture the creepy atmosphere and nightmarish tones of Kings tale, partly due to the film changing the shocking ending. A 2009 reboot kept to books ending, but felt more like a TV movie with very little budget and ultimately failed to deliver on the big creature reveal at the end. If there’s one thing for sure.. us horror fans love giant man-eating creatures.
comicbook dropped the news on the new film, saying:
ANVL Entertainment’s website notes that the film is “(Awaiting Release) – Fall 2022.” Whether the film could debut in theaters, on streaming platforms, or on physical media is yet to be determined.
Directed by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium) this new reimagining of King’s tale has apparently been finished for some time now, with screenings taking place in a couple of theaters in Florida back in October of 2020. It stars Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, and Bruce Spence and promises to be a more faithful adaption of King’s story. So with two extra years to tighten the edit, improve upon the special effects; because that “giant, green, red-eyed monster” better be in this version, lets all keep our bloodies fingers crossed that this one is one hell of a scream!
