Disney+ Might Magic up ‘Hocus Pocus 2’
Well Horror Fans, you could not have picked a better time for this little nugget of news, with Halloween just around the corner. It seems that Disney + are looking at revving the much loved 90s fantasy comedy-horror film Hocus Pocus. The film that introduced us to the Sanderson sisters, Winifred, Sarah and Mary, may well be getting a sequel thanks to Jen D’Angelo, writer and co-producer on Workaholics, who has been hired to pen the next spooky film. Collider dropped the news saying that
D’Angelo has been tasked with finding a way to bring back the original cast of Bette Midler as Winifred, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah, and Kathy Najimy as Mary. None of them are attached at the moment, but the studio is hopeful that they’ll be involved with the sequel in some capacity.
This is great news for fans of the high-jinx horror film, as a stand alone sequel might not entice too many folks as a direct sequel would. Bloody Disgusting chimed in with a few other attempts that Disney has had over the past few years, including a TV show.
Disney began kicking the tires of a new Hocus Pocus over five years ago with Hocus Pocus 2: Rise of the Elderwitch, which would have focused on a witch hunter and a single witch. Then, two years ago, it was reported that a TV remake was in the works for The Disney Channel with an entirely new cast. This woke Midler from the grave, who shared her displeasure for the new incarnation: “I know it’s cheap. It’s going to be cheap!”
SO whilst it’s still in the air (flying) if the original cast, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, will return, it seems the first hurdle is to conjure up a script that will enchant Disney executives into producing those green bucks that make a movie. We will hopefully hear more news soon!
