Mike Flanagan Reveals His Faithful Plan for The Dark Tower TV Series

The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed...
Stephen Kings magnum opus opens on a rather small section of his fantasy world, introducing us to the gunslinger and the man in black. As the story progresses, with the other books, more characters are introduced and the world grows in epic proportions.
One of the major issues the 2017 film had, was it's need to drop the audiance into a busier part of the story., with very loose continuty with the books. Well... there's some good news coming from mid-world, as Mike Flanagan takes reins of one of King's biggest stories.
in a recent interview with The Process Unlocked, Flanagan spoke about how best to approach The Dark Tower, and he thinks that keeping it faithful is key, and why his new adaptation will begin with The Gunslinger:
“You can’t throw the audience face-first into this huge universe... it’s overwhelming. King got it right. He walked in and started with two people and nothing else, then walked one step at a time.”
Flanagan has previously discussed an ambitious structure consisting of five television seasons, followed by two feature films adapting the final two books. However, the precise format has not been officially confirmed, and the project has not yet received a full studio green light.
The filmmaker has said that the first season’s scripts are complete and that Stephen King is pleased with what he has seen. Even so, the scale of the production means Roland’s journey is still some way from reaching our screens.
Whilst that all sounds exciting, fans will have to be patient. Flanagan is currently attached to several major projects, including adaptations of King’s Carrie (which he is currently promoting) and The Mist, as well as a television project based on Warhammer 40,000. That crowded schedule, combined with the size and cost of The Dark Tower, means fans may have a long wait ahead.
