The Revenge of La Llorona (2027) Moves Up Release Date as The Conjuring Expands Again

Warner Bros. has moved The Revenge of La Llorona (2027) forward on its release calendar, with the horror sequel now set to haunt cinemas on 26th February 2027.

The film was previously scheduled for 9th April 2027, but has swapped dates with Sam Esmail’s Panic Carefully (2027). The earlier slot gives the weeping spirit a little more than a month’s head start on The Conjuring: First Communion (2027), which remains dated for 10th September 2027. A lot of dates and a lot of scares!

A follow-up to The Curse of La Llorona (2019), the new film will reportedly centre on a fractured family forced to protect their children from La Llorona’s deadly curse. Raymond Cruz is returning as Rafael Olvera, while Monica Raymund, Jay Hernandez, Edy Ganem, Martín Fajardo, Acston Luca Porto and Avie Porto also star.

Santiago Menghini is directing from a script by Sean Tretta. James Wan, Gary Dauberman and Emile Gladstone are on board as executive producers.

Is La Llorona really part of The Conjuring Universe? That depends on who you ask...  which feels appropriate for a franchise built around haunted objects and questionable ghosts.

The Curse of La Llorona (2019) included Tony Amendola reprising Father Perez, a character first seen in Annabelle (2014). That connection has long tied the film to The Conjuring orbit in fans’ minds. However, Peter Safran previously described La Llorona as not being an official entry in the shared universe, despite the crossover character.

Either way, the returning producer team and the familiar Father Perez connection make The Revenge of La Llorona (2027) a clear cousin of the franchise, even if it is still sitting at the slightly awkward end of the family séance.

The first film was not warmly received by critics, holding a 26% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it made a very healthy $123.2 million worldwide against a reported $9 million budget. In horror terms, that is the sort of financial result that wakes the dead...  and eventually gets them a sequel.

Meanwhile... The Conjuring: First Communion (2027) is also heading backwards in time with The Conjuring: First Communion (2027), a prequel expected to introduce younger versions of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix have been reported as the new Ed and Lorraine, taking over the roles played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga across the main Conjuring films. Rodrigue Huart is set to direct, with Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg writing the screenplay.

Wilson and Farmiga appeared to bid farewell to their versions of the Warrens following The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025). Speaking to ScreenRant, Farmiga said the pair had “hung up the rosaries”, while Wilson described it as the end of their journey “right now”.

With a prequel, a La Llorona sequel and an HBO Max television series reportedly in development, it appears the Warrens’ locked artefact room still has a few cursed shelves left to open.

The Revenge of La Llorona (2027) is currently due in cinemas on 26th February 2027, followed by The Conjuring: First Communion (2027) on 10th September 2027. Now that's spooky!!!
