The Evil Dead is Going Back in Time (AGAIN)

by Lallen | Jun 18, 2026

The Deadites are heading back in time (again..). And that's justLovely. Because apparently evil books were already ruining everyone’s day before Ash Williams ever picked up a bloody chainsaw.

Producer Robert Tapert has confirmed that Evil Dead Wrath (2028), the next-next film in the Evil Dead series, will be a prequel to Sam Raimi’s original classic The Evil Dead (1981). Whilst I was kinda hoping that the film would be following Professor Raymond Knowby, it seesm like its not. And THAT does feel like a bit of a missed opertunity. So far, the Evil Dead offerings have felt about as far flung from the franchise as they possible could, and the series desperelty needs to either give us more Ash , or replace him with someone else. However, the new film will be following... " a French woman living in the United States who is trapped in a toxic marriage". This sounds less like an Evil Dead film and more like some crime drama you'd get on Peacock.

The film is being written and directed by Francis Galluppi, best known for The Last Stop in Yuma County (2023). The cast includes Charlotte HopeJessica McNameeZach Gilford, and Josh Helman.

Tapert also said that Evil Dead Wrath (2028) is aiming to feel like a film from 1972, with Galluppi and his cinematographer looking to recreate the appearance of Ektachrome 100 film stock.

He described the look as: “Very warm, very tungsten.”

That sounds like a perfect fit for the franchise: sun-baked, old-school, and probably crawling with something horrible in the walls.

Before Evil Dead Wrath (2028) arrives, horror fans will get Evil Dead Burn (2026), directed by Sébastien Vaniček. Following another family with more family drama leading to some deadites and such. Call me Jaded... but Evil Dead Rise was an awfull film, and Burn and Wrath both seem to think that the what the Evil Dead needs is the human touch, when what it needs is a cabin, some woods, a damned book and a lot of undead beasties cracking doors open and being cut in half with chainsaws. Give me nudge in the ribs when we see THAT movie.

Untill then Evil Dead Burn is out in July 9th (UK) and 10th (US), and Wrath is out sometime in 2028.
