Scary Movie (2026) Epic Promotional Push

by Lallen | May 28, 2026

When the Scary Movie franchise first exploded in 2000, it was very much a Wayans family joke with a knife-edge bite. Keenen Ivory Wayans directed the first film, and Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans co-wrote and starred, and the result was a monster hit that turned horror spoofs into box-office gold. But the family’s connection to the series was cut short after the first two films, with the Wayanses later saying they were pushed out while the franchise kept going without them. Now, after more than two decades, the family is back where it all began, with Marlon Wayans calling the new film a true reset rather than a straight sequel. As he puts it, “This is a return back to the franchise we all created, so forget all the bad years! This isn’t ‘Scary Movie 6’; this is a reboot.”

That return has a very personal edge. In a Variety interview, Marlon Wayans says his late father urged the brothers to work together again, telling him, “I think you and your brothers should work together again,” and later, “Do it for me.” Wayans says he promised him he would make it happen, and that promise helped bring Keenen, Shawn, and the wider family back into the fold. It also helps explain why a new Scary Movie is arriving now: not just because nostalgia is profitable, but because the Wayans family wants to reclaim a franchise they believe was taken from them, and because Wayans thinks the world could do with a laugh. “This is coming at a time where the world needs a laugh,” he says. “We’re here to remind people what it’s like to laugh and feel good.”

And you know what, the promotional push for this movie feels like something from the 90's or 2000's, with a hard line sale hitting all media channels. Whilst most movie push out a trailer and a poster, Scary movie has pushed out several trailers, and multiple TV spots, along side 8 additional posters parodying variopsu films over the last 10 years.

There's also a fun interactive website the has launched this week, pushing the promotion into a fun and unexpected route, mixes marketing with interaction. The website is of course a parody of one the internets very first viral marketing events for Burger King. Back in 2004, Burger King launched the  Subservient Chicken website for promotion of thier chicken sandwich. Using pre-recorded footage, you could type in hundreds of different commands and watch as a guy in a chicken suit plays out your request. Fast forward 20 years and Wayans Bros. Entertainment have a created thier very own version called Subservient GhostFace

https://subservientghostface.com/

The idea is pretty simple, type in a command and watch as GhostFace acts out your request. And it's pretty detail for a parody site. Ranging from the  mundane such as eating and sleeping, to out right weird and silly. You can interact with the set, act our scenes form previous Scary Movies (my favorite is Substance and Home Alone), even ask GhostFace to become various Horror Boogeymen. He has dozens of trending dance moves, enough to feel like a Fortnight Parody, and there's tons of Easter eggs from modern, upcoming or even out right now (..ahem Backroom). Also look out for classic memes and don't forget top wreck the room. But boy does that look tiring (I'm guessing this would have been the very last thing their filmed as GhostFace really goes for it, destroying plants, pictures and walls).

As if this wasn't enough, they Wayan's have also teamed up Lizzo for a music video for "Hoes", the official song for Scary Movie (2026).

Phew, that's a lot. And you can really appreciate what the Wayans are doing here, bringing back good ol fashioned marketing in a way that feels fresh and fun. If they have gone to this length to promote the film, I can't WAIT to see just what they have up their sleeves for us when Scary Movie hits cinemas in June 5th.
