Trick ‘R Treat Comes To Theaters In 4K With New Content

Spooky season just got a little deadlier. Fathom Events is unleashing Trick ‘r Treat (2007) on the big screen in a newly restored 4K presentation, the film’s first-ever US/European theatrical release. The cult anthology stitches together five wickedly interwoven tales, all stalked by Sam (he is basically a physical manifestation of the spirit of Halloween, hence Sam, short for Samhain), the pint-sized enforcer of Halloween tradition with a burlap sack and a mean streak.

Written and directed by Michael Dougherty in his feature debut — yes, the same fiend behind Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and co-writer of X2: X‑Men United (2003), Trick ‘r Treat (2007) boasts a killer cast, including Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, and Leslie Bibb. If you’ve only met Sam on your telly, it’s time to face him in a darkened theatre where he belongs.

But be warned : Trick ‘r Treat is only back in US theaters for two days, October 14th and 16th, on a very limited run. For the UK, cinemas are generally doing just one single screening at the end of october, so check out your local cinema to see when it’s on.

Trick ‘r Treat’s nationwide/worldwide release is huge news for this Halloween fan favorite, but if your still sitting on the fence, there’s more that might just get your butt back ingto those cinema seats. In celebration of the re-release, audiences will be treated to something spooky! Audiences will see Dougherty’s 1996 animated short Season’s Greetings, which introduced the character of Sam and pretty much the reason why Trick ‘r Treat even exists. Season’s Greetings has also been given a 4K restoration for Trick ‘r Treat’s trip to the theater.

Arrow films also released a 4K release last year and it looks liek there may be another run this year, so you could always pick up a copy for a more cosey halloween film night. Zavvi even have the special Steel Case version ready for pre-order, so grab a copy whilst they last.
