First Look at ‘The Crow’ Remake Causes a Stir
📗 SUMMARY
- The New Eric Kraven Look is revealed
- Alex Proyas has joked about “a bad hair day”
- The new direction polarizes fans
This week, we had our very first look at Bill Skarsgård’s new take on Eric Draven for the remake of The Crow. However not every one is convinced of the new “Jokerfied” style that Draven dons in the new film hitting cinemas this year. With hair dye, tattoos and a bulging six pack, this is a far cry from the character we first saw in 1994 film, which saw Brandon Lee take on the role of rock star Draven.
The new look has sparked criticism online, with many comparing it to Jared Leto’s Joker from Suicide Squad. Original Crow director Alex Proyas joked about Eric’s new hairstyle, on facebook, by commenting,
“Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks!”
According to the new director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), the new look is modern take on the source material, meaning to appeal to Gen Z. This has put the back up of many fans of the original, leading to some conflit online between haters and supports of the new look. Proyas made a scond post defending his jokey first.
“For all those raging at me because I made a joke about a haircut – why do you care what I think? What does it matter? If your enjoyment of a movie can be ruined so easily by one person you don’t even know isn’t that kind of sad? Go see it if you are excited about it – I don’t want to take anyone’s joy away. God knows we need all the joy we can get in life right now.”
The official synopsis for The Crow reads
“Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”
