Watch Tom Baker’s Final ‘Doctor Who’ Theme Being Made
For almost 60 years, Doctor Who has captured the minds and hearts of sci-fi nerds from around the world, and the main theme has always been a major part of the show appeal. Originally composed by Ron Grainer and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop the original score broke grounds in electronic music, and even to this day, music composer are pushing boundaries to bring us the new sound for The Doctor.
Taking a trip back to the early 80’s, BBC Archives offer us a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the show, as we watch Peter Howell creating the theme for Tom Baker’s last season, Season 18 (1980–81), of Doctor Who. This theme went on define the show right up until the Sixth Doctor’s (Colin Baker) final season, collectively known as The Trial of a Time Lord.
