16 of The Most Scariest Faces In Horror Films

As Horror Fans, we love a good scare, and we come to expect a certain amount of content that will keep us at the edge of our seats, and nothing can chill our blood more than true evil. The manifestation of evil of often best reflected in that of the faces of the many monsters, ghost and creatures that haunt the reels of our favorite films. For todays list, we are looking at some of the best examples of faces that haunted our subconscious, long after the film had ended.  Here are 16 of The Most Scariest Faces In Horror Films

The Exorcist still holds the crown of being one of the scariest films ever made. But it’s not Regan, nor her changing looks that have people cowering under sheets. Eagle eyed views may have spotted a demonic white head of Pazuzu appear briefly throughout the film. Even more so in the directors cut, where it haunts the MacNeils through out. But it’s during the actual exorcism, that this face joins with Regan, forming a terrifying face that looks horrifyingly distorted and otherworldly.

An American Werewolf in London boast some of the best special effects that came out of the 80’s, with David’s werewolf transformation still not beaten in scale and terror. But it’s during a fevered dream sequence that we get a horrific hybrid creature that will haunt your dreams. The dream sees David asleep in a hospital bed that is sitting out in the middle of some woods. As the nurse comes to check on him, he suddenly transforms into a horrific white face creature.

 

Legend (1985) – Lord Darkness

Legend is a 1985 American epic dark fantasy adventure film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Tom Cruise and Tim Curry. Curry steals the show as red skinned demon Darkness, whose gruesome chops is enough to put the fear into any wandering hero. This demonic figure only gets more terrifying when Curry is swapped our for his stunt double wearing a mask with black holes for eyes and a wobbly horns!

 

Pet Sematary (1989) – Zelda

Pet Semetery is a chilling story or morality and the human soul, written by Stephen King. The film’s main focus is on the burial ground that lies beyond the local Pet Cemetery. But despite the tales of the dead coming back to life, one of the things fans freak out about most is Zelda, a young girl suffering spinal meningitis who appears in flashbacks. Her twisted body and contorted face have been given people nightmares for years.

The multi award winning horror The Silence of Lambs has managed to haunt our collective dreams for many years, with Anthony Hopkins take on Hannibal Lecter managing to get under your skin and deep into your subconscious. But, it’s a head in a jar that made audience jump out of their skins, as the pickled noggin was revealed in a dark room.

 

IT (1980) – Pennywise

Stephen King’s story about an child eating entity that can swap it’s shape at will, is one that has been keeping people up at night for over 30 years. The creature, which calls itself Pennywise, likes one form more than any other, which is that of a clown. Sufferers of Coulrophobia, a fear of clowns, have a hard time with IT, but even the most hardened horror fan has to admit that when it’s face is filled with razor sharp teeth, and it’s eyes turn burning red, Pennywise is truly terrifying.

Twilight Zone The Movie is a sci-fi horror anthology film based on the TV series created by Rod Serling. In a segment that acts as book-ends to the film, Dan Aykroyd stars as passenger in the car that turns into a hideous creature. It’s a face that’s hard to forget, especially when it haunts you dream late at night. “Do you want to see something really scary?”… not really!!!

 

Vamp (1986) – Katrina

Bloodsucking thriller Vamp sees two fraternity pledges travel to a sleazy bar in search of a stripper for their college friends, unaware it is occupied by vampires. The bar is run by head vampire Katrina, played gleefully by crazed actress Grace Jones. Beauty meets the beast in one scene, where Katrina’s face transforms into a hideous clawed creature that literally rips into her victims neck. Nasty stuff!

 

Pumpkinhead (1988) – Harley Transforms

Pumpkinhead is a fan favorite tale of caution that sees Ed Harley (Lance Henriksen) seeks revenge against the teenagers responsible for his sons death. He calls upon the Pumpkinhead, a demon of revenge, to help get retribution. But as the monster kills,  Harley and the beast start to bind and we get this nasty moment where it’s both Pumpkinhead and Harley share the same chilling face. Not a good look for your Instagram profile.

 

Evil Dead (1981) – Sheryl

The Evil Dead is the most significant cult films ever made. Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell, The Evil Dead features several pretty nasty looking creatures that haunt Cambell’s Ash through out the film, but one of the most creepiest ghouls is that of Ash’s sister, who’s ugly mug spends the best part of the film leering out from the basement trapdoor.

 

Dead Heat (1988) – Melting Face

Dead Heat is a 1988 American buddy cop action zombie comedy film starring Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo. The film follows Detectives Roger Mortis and Doug Bigelow on a case that sees dead criminals coming back to life. During their investigation, they meet Randi James (Lindsay Frost) who turns out to be the first test subjects for the resurrection process. In one nasty little scene, she confesses her true identity before dissolving in horrifying sequence that will certainly turn your stomach.

 

Insidious (2010) – Lipstick-Face Demon

Insidious was director James Wan’s and writer Leigh Whannell’s takes on a haunted house film. It managed to make a huge impact and continues to deliver more films in the franchise. However, the original 2010 horror managed to be the most scariest, thanks to one scene that still has people jumping out of their skins. The hideous Lipstick-Face Demon pops up over the should or one of the films characters and made us all pee our pants.

 

Salem’s Lot (1975) – Mr Barlow

There are many vampire films out there, filled with all manner of differently designed blood suckers, but it’s Tobe Hooper’s adaption of Stephen king’s Salem’s Lot, that brings us a truly terrifying persona of evil. Whilst King brought a well-spoken European gentleman to his little town, Hooper turn him mute and blue, gave him some wicked crooked teeth with evil burning eyes. You may not enjoy Mr Barlow… but he’ll enjoy you!

 

Dead Silence (2007) – Mary Shaw

In Dead Silence, Jamie Ashen (Ryan Kwanten) returns to his creepy hometown of Ravens Fair to unravel the mystery of his wife’s murder. It’s here that he discovers the legend of Mary Shaw, a murdered ventriloquist whose eerie presence still looms over the town. Through out the film we get small glimpses of Mary Shaw’s ghastly face, and each time, it turns our blood cold!

 

Demons 2 (1985) – Sally

The Demons series has plenty of nasty looking creatures, but the most horrific of these comes from patient zero of Demons 2, Sally. Having taken a dislike to her party guest list, her dress and just about everything lese, she locks herself in her room to watch some TV. This is where she is infected by a TV broadcast and turns into a nasty, corked fanged beats with major anger issues.

 

Fright Night (1985) – Amy

Fright Night is a smorgasbord of nasty vampire, wolves and ghouls. The special effects team really out did themselves with the various different designs throughout the film. But the most terrifying creation comes in the third act, when innocent Amy final succumbs to her vampire bite and goes full-on vamp. Her mouth opens impossibly wide revealing row after row of dripping razor sharp fangs. It’s horrible stuff, and it’s also the image that they stuck on the poster!
