Designed to parody of the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls,  the Topps Company released a series of trading cards that featured abnormal characters called The Garbage Pail Kids. This sick and twisted trading cards quickly become popular around schools, much to the dismay of parents and teachers who felt that they were inappropriate for kids. But the popularity of the cards grew quickly, to the point where Topps decided to adapt a film based around them. The live-action film released in 1987, but it had a very poor opening poorly and barely made back its $1million budget.
