Lindsay Wallace and Tommy Doyle Return for ‘Halloween Kills’

With Halloween become last year’s big horror hit, it was a certainty that Blumhouse Productions would be looking to keep the horror going. When Dimension Films lost the production rights to the Halloween franchise after 7 sequelas and 2 re-make features, it fell into the hands of Blumhouse to turn the series around for a modern audience. They brought on David Gordon Green, Jeff Fradley and Danny McBride to write the script, with Green sitting in the big chair for the gig. They decided to create a sequel-remake that would continue on 40 years after the original film, retconning all the sequels that had followed.

The film saw the return of both Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle, reprising their roles as Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, and it hit cinemas in October 2018. It grossed over $255 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise and also became the highest-grossing slasher film ever made. With such a huge success, Blumhouse announced not one, but two sequels with Green and McBride both continuing to head the films writing team. The movies will be shot back to back, with Green announcing..

“We start in September [and shoot them back-to-back] with a breather between. But they’ll be out in two consecutive years, in 2020 and 2021. You get a breather this year, and then, for the next two years, it’s gonna be crazy… We had ambitions of doing two, with some big ideas, and then decided that we should see if anybody liked one at a time, and if they liked the other one, then maybe we’d build on it. And then, when [Halloween] was successful, our additional ideas that weren’t integrated into that first one developed into two. We’ve written them, and we’re ready to go… It’s just a continuation of it. It’s telling the story, moving forward. It’s not another reinvention, or anything like that. It’s this world that we’ve established, and then it continues beyond the events of the first one.”

Green had some big news recently, when he announced that two character from the first film will be returning to the franchise. Tommy Doyle, the young boy who Laurie was babysitting on the night of Halloween 1978, will be making his big screen comeback. Previously appearing in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, played by Ant-Man star Paul Rudd, the character will this time around be played by Michael Anthony Hall. Joining him will be Lindsay Wallace, who will be played by the original actress Kyle Richards. 

One thing is for sure, the series is in good hands, and Green has promised that his films will END Michael Myers for good. Are you ready to say goodbye to Mr Sandman (Boogeyman)?
