Clive Barker’s ‘Nightbreed’ Gets a TV Series!
Clive Barker’s has always been a mainstay of horror and so it was only time before his work caught the TV bug that’s going round. With films such as Scanners, Critters and The Lost Boys all currently developing ideas for a shows, Barker work looks set for the small screens too.
Nightbreed was original based on the novella ‘Cabal’ and collection of shorter stories, which Barker turned into a live action film ‘Nightbreed’ in 1990. Featuring a cast of various odd-ball characters and critters, It follows a group of underground half-breed monsters seeking a new home. The film was a reflection on fring society and the metaphysical meaning of what separates man from monster. However it was released heavily cut. The studio had turned his deep thinking thriller into a stinking slasher, and the film bombed. Barker fought for many years to restore his original vision and it’s only been recently that an official Directors Cut has been released.
Deadline revealed that a new SyFy Channel TV show, based on the Cabal Collection, is being developed by Barker (Hellraiser & Candyman), writer Josh Stolberg (Jigsaw & Piranha), Morgan Creek Entertainment and Universal Cable Prods.
Barker said
“This story has been near to my heart for many years, I’m at beyond thrilled that SyFy and UCP are taking this journey with us, and I cannot wait to see it brought to life on the screen.”

We expect that a pilot will be made before any major movement, and as the recent failed Tremors pilot has proved, nothing is set in stone until the ink is dry on the paperwork.
