At my primary school, it was well known that “penny”, the ghost of a young child, haunted the out-of-bounds area at the end of the play field. The tale was that she climbed up an old willow tree, and fell, breaking her neck. Sound familiar? Over the years, I’ve heard many others with similar stories about their old schools and colleges, each with their own spin on a terrible tragedy. From kids that drowned in pools and lakes, to haunted rooms and corridors. Yep, these are nothing more than urban legends, passed from person t person in order to frighten the listeners.
