The Tragic Horror of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON
If you were to ask any Horror Fan about their top 5 Werewolf films, An American Werewolf in London is sure to make the list. There’s something genuinely enjoyable about the film. Whether it’s the dark tone, witty dialogue or unparalleled special effects, it’s a film that deserve multiple watches. Psychologically, the films a jackpot of survivors guilt, suicidal thoughts and even a pinch of anti semitism, all built on top of a premise that sees an American backpacker attacked by a werewolf whilst hiking across the moors in Yorkshire. That said, the films best quality, above the things I’ve already mentioned, is the films casual teasing of the audience, as it’s tongue in cheek approach casually throws away all those tropes we know about werewolves. It’s a ride, a bloody and hilarious journey into duality and death.
Youtuber Ryan Hollinger is well know for diving deeper into the ideology and psychology of films, and here in today’s video, he review An American Werewolf in London after watching the film for the first time. Apologize for the backed in adverts (seriously who does that?), but it’s well worth getting through that for an honest and enlightening look at one of the best Werewolf films ever made. So, buckle up my friend, as we toss out our silver bullets and enjoy The Tragic Horror of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON.
