‘Terminator’ is Getting an Animated Series!
James Cameron’s original action-slasher, The Terminator, told the tale of Sarah Conner, the would be mother of John Conner, resistance leader fighting a future war against sentinel killer robots. The film was followed up by an all out action thriller Judgment day, before it started to Wayne a little with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), Terminator Genisys (2015), and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019). There was also a TV spin-off series called The Sarah Conner Chronicles that ran for two series. The franchise also includes video games, theme park rides and even a successful crossover comic series Robocop Vs Terminator. But, it seems like there’s still a little steam left in the engine.
The Hollywood Reporter recently announced that Netflix and Skydance are joining forces to create a animated TV show based on The Terminator franchise. The Batman writer Mattson Tomlin will show-run the series. He said…
“Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart. I’m honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts.”
Netflix’s John Derderian also weighed in on the new deal, saying…
“The new animated series will explore this universe in a way that has never been done before.”
I’m hoping that they choose the future war as the setting for this series, as I still firmly believe that it’s very much an unexplored goldmine, despite the efforts of the pretty dreadful Terminator Salvation. Only time will tell! No news if Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved.
