Some amazing news arrived this week, as CBS announce a new series of Sci-fi series Star Trek. Whilst this news alone is enough to get fans excited, the really big news is who is going to be running the gig. This week, CBS president Glenn Geller revealed his choice, “Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller, to take helm of the series. Fuller cut his teeth as a writer on both Deep Space Nine and Voyager and seems to be a perfect fit for bringing the show back. Being a huge fan of Star Trek and having that magic touch when it comes to TV shows, we can only hope that his vision is something new and exciting.
Back in 2013 Fuller once mentioned his idea for a new series.
I would love to do something on the Reliant. I want Angela Lansbury…Not Lansbury! I want Angela Bassett to be the captain, that’s who I would love to have, you know Captain Angela Bassett and First Officer Rosario Dawson. I would love to do that version of the show and but that’s in the future to be told.
Star Trek sizzled out with it’s last series, Enterprise, which served as prequel to the original series. What Fans found hard to swallow was it’s lack of respect for the series timeline, and it’s constant need to push new races and technology, which made little sense for a prequel.
The good news for fans is that the new series will not continue the alternate universe story seen in the recent films, keeping to the canon series time line, which leaves the show open to cameos and character from other Star Trek Shows
