It will come as no surprise to anyone that the Guillermo Del Toro-produced horror Mama is finally going to get a sequel. The Hollywood Reporter has news that writing and directing duo Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes), may well be sitting in the big chair for long awaited Mama sequel. With a script already in their hands, the plan is for them to re-write before pushing towards production.
The original, that saw two orphan girls adopted by a ghost, grossed $71 million in the US and $75 million internationally on a tiny budget of $15 million. Of course, having Guillermo Del Toro on board helped to give the film some legs, but with little sign of his involvement for the sequel, and with other news original star Jessica Chastain is not expected to return, the film could struggle to find an audience.
